This duo nearly evenly split the carries (14 for Cook, 13 for Singletary) and combined for 115 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Bills also utilized an effective platoon running back setup of James Cook and Devin Singletary. He was especially effective on short passes (aerials traveling 10 or fewer yards downfield), as Allen was 20 for 26 for 185 yards on these dink and dunk throws. Josh Allen completed 22 of 33 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. The Buffalo Bills combined a consistent offensive game plan with one of its best defensive efforts in weeks to post a 24-10 win over the New England Patriots in the Week 13 Thursday Night Football game. Instead, the starting quarterback was yelling on the sideline, the offensive line was a mess and the team’s only touchdown came from a rookie defensive player. Banking on Tyquan Thornton to get better. Now, Andrews is left to grapple with whatever this offense is and what Thursday’s loss means for a 6-6 team that once hoped to win in the playoffs. Yet, so far, all we’ve seen in New England’s plan at wide receiver is marginal improvement. The real issue is that by the time the magic moment happened - the Bills punted on fourth-and-8 from their own 18 with 3:04 remaining in the first half - this nationally televised affair was already looking like another slog for the Patriots. And it wasn’t just that the Bills had gone 23 consecutive drives against the Patriots, spread out over two seasons, without needing to punt. If you were among these jolly jokers, nobody could have blamed you. You could have gone with the ol’ I’ll-never-forget-where-I-was-when-it-happened bit (saw a bunch of those on Twitter) or maybe weaved in some physical comedy by pantomiming confused Buffalo special-teamers not quite remembering how to line up for a punt to the Pats.
